He most recently served as director of the Blacksburg Community Band for five years following retirement and now enjoys playing percussion with <i>Brass 5, Island Music Trio, and Off Our Rockers. <\/i>McKee remains an active advocate for music educators and their students. In 2017, he received the Shenandoah University Distinguished Alumnus Award for Lifetime Achievement.
